Women and Drug Policy: Implications of Normalization
This article discusses some of the adverse effects that the U. S. punitive drug policy has on women in the form of gender-biased or inaccessible treatment programs, the prosecution of pregnant drug users, and the rising population of female prisoners. It contrasts the U.S. policy with the Dutch normalization policy, showing that normalization is a more humane and pragmatic alternative to this country's punitive and moralistic approach.
