Disparities Between African-American Women and Men on Social Work FacultyThe study reported here addressed the effect of gender on the academic status of social work faculty of color by comparing the academic status of 264 African-American women and men on social work faculty. It found that a greater percentage of women than men held lower academic ranks, were not tenured, and had not been members of editorial boards of professional journals. The implications of this pattern of inequality are discussed.
