Effect of Unemployment on WomenIn the context of a four-month longitudinal investigation, the reactions of a small group of women to unemployment were compared with those of a larger group of men. The hypothesis that women would be less affected by the loss of their jobs was not supported. However, it was found that only the women who experienced financial distress or who exhibited a strong satisfaction with work were negatively affected, while the mere fact of being unemployed depressed the men.
